Il turco alla Porta - Limes

 

Limes il mensile uscito a luglio 2020 è dedicato alla Turchia. Ricco di analisi e approfondimenti, ripercorre la traiettoria geopolitica della nazione un tempo laica ed ora in via di ridefinizione. Le ambizioni imperiali del passato e del presente sono ricche di contraddizioni ed altrettanto imprevedibili; le ricadute sono ampie ben oltre i propri confini e suscitano preoccupazione per noi europei, naturalmente le possibilità di trovare temi di collaborazione con le leve del commercio si sovrappongono alle difficoltà del dialogo e della diplomazia di due sistemi che appaiono diversi. L'Italia in primis mostra la corda con una limitata capacità militare nel difendere i propri interessi. La leva militaresca della Turchia e le vicende della Nato si intrecciano ed i destini di entrambi appaiono complicati. Il patriottismo turco è tentacolare anche all'estero. Chiude il numero un'intervista all'ex Presidente del servizio Segreto Interno tedesco che sottolinea le crepe nella democrazia tedesca e le difficoltà nell'affrontare l'integrazione e l'infiltrazione dei turchi e dell'Islam nella società tedesca con rischi per la sicurezza sempre più presenti.

Fermare Pechino - Federico Rampini - Stop Beijing

 

Federico Rampini is an Italian-American journalist one of whom has lived each side of the "barricades". This book is only in Italian. His idea in the title is that our Western civilization has to cope with the advancement of Chinese millennial civilizations from their direct descendant, the Han people that represent the vast majority of a nation with 1,5 billion people. Interesting to note is, in modern China the new generations and the fast consumerism adopted by them, their passions for fantasy literature, an attempt to express the vision a the contradictions in place in one authoritarian country. The subsequent chapters try to recapitulate the last problems like the Taiwan question and the Covid-19 seen from a dual perspective of West-East views and threading the multiple contrasts inside in these two models of political systems. If in the USA the rhetoric tends to foster private enterprises in any circumstances in so creating inequalities, in China the role of the public hand of State is every-present notwithstanding the emergence of e-commerce and a very high technology industries like in America but with the rule of the regulator from the State that pervades any sector and tries to counterbalance any commercial invasion by the West and any kind of power concentration outside the Party. This story ends with a description of the new centered economic renaissance by each side of public investments and with the crisis of American democracy, but with a message of hope, the West can defend its values if it catches with China's views.

The Cost of Free Money by Paola Subacchi is a recap of the last century in the economic world. Turning points of history here are described as a backward and forward way to cooperation e multilateralization for the stability of the economies and the opening of the markets. The complexities of the evolutions in human constructions are wildly documented here and the problems are numerous to build a new pacific order. The inequalities are deepening between states and into them and are becoming a threat to the peace. The resolution and strength that the author put on the value of cooperation are countered by the retrenchment of the Nations inward and toward new authoritarian models of governance. Not much was told about the financialization of the economy as implicit in the title of the book.

Antifragile - Nassim Nicholas Taleb

 

Antifragile the book of Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a disappointing book that seems a little bit confused from the start, although the reading is easy isn't very appropriate to define a constructive theory. In fact, the deconstruction of the other theories was the main objective of the author, and in particular, the subtraction of matter can be quite true in the abstract to create convexity, but anyone in his own life likes to have expectations in practice by addition & by addiction. In 500 pages the redundancy of concepts appear to be disarming.

An epidemic of absence - Moises Velasquez-Manoff

 

On-field experiment attempt book about the cure of modern maladies and allergies. The author browses through various health problems and witnesses that don't confirm the science nor this pseudo-science but could reaffirm the difficulties and growing health diseases and intolerances in the contemporary world. Food intolerance also links the strict correlation between a sedentary lifestyle, closed rooms or sterile environments, lack of parasites, and health shocks. The insertion of parasites in human skin augmented apparently the tolerance in various cases here witnessed and also the improvement of health status but not in definitive way. The book become a cue in search of solutions to allergies and Autoimmune diseases.

Il manifesto di Ventotene - Altiero Spinelli - Ernesto Rossi

L'origine del pensiero dell'Europa e l'idea incompiuta di Unione. Allo scadere del processo di integrazione dell'Unione Europea, questa fondamenta del pensiero posta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale è di indubbia attualità; la decadenza degli stati nazionali sono l'assunto da cui partiamo ogni volta che la struttura della modernità sembra crollare come ora. Gli autori confinati dal regime fascista a Ventotene concepirono quest'opera in un quadro di forti ideologie, ma con una costante dei tempi che è il nazionalismo ed il ripiegamento su se stessa della Storia. Capire che cedere tutti la propria sovranità a vantaggio di un'Unione Federale tanto più con dei problemi globali come i virus e le migrazioni, i commerci e la giustizia ci interroga esattamente sui perché dell'esistenza. Spinelli in particolare portò a compimento un percorso di vita costellato di ripensamenti ma le piacevoli ambizioni qui svolte rincorrono l'edificio europeo costantemente. Nulla è spontaneo e tutto si costruisce è anche il farò teorico/pratico tradotto dai problemi del totalitarismo alla democrazia perché nulla è immutabile ma tutto anche se costellato di buone intenzione purtroppo può essere distrutto. I temi narrati sono difficili da capire se non si legge nel presente criticamente e per la generazione odierna, ciò è fulcro del pensiero. Il federalismo rimane un'alternativa praticabile.

A little investigation into the UK Financial Sector & its evaluation of resource constraints & climate change consequences on it. Classical theories and new accomplishments are exposed in the text. What emerges through surveys is the shocks that resource constraints could cause in the short term to the bank sector, in the long term to the pension funds and generally to the insurance sector. Pricing of systemic risk need to be created and regulation and legislation have been made problematic situations in the past as could be the case for the future if not directed toward the elasticity of the norms and versus specific targets.

The case for carbon dividends - James K. Boyce

Focus on Climate Change! How to combat it? The price on carbon emissions could become the solution. Cap and permit system or carbon taxes? The first solution tries to fix the level of maximum emissions and allow the price to move, the second fix the price of emissions and let the emissions move. The author's proposal is for Cap and permits because the adjustment toward the high cost in line with the major emissions per capita (included the enterprises and governments) could be generating a much more equitable pure distributive effect from the money collected and foster the innovation. Clearly, the carbon dividend management requires a direct transfer to every citizen although not dictated, in the form of a fixed amount for each one. The lowest percentiles have a little gain in doing that, but as in the case of Alaska's permanent fund dividend the common good remains neutral at disposal in direction of a decarbonized economy through carbon rent; this formula could potentially be applied by the way in every single nation in reason to make cheaper the zero emissions technology. Alternatives distribution of the dividend is poorly considered due to the bureaucratization cost and politics timing. Fortunately, bipartisan virtues are emerging and are described here.

Bob Woodward explores the first 2 years of Trump presidency and its insightful facts in a well-documented book published by Simon & Schuster. Investigative text, many firsthand sources collaborated and it tried to depict the instinctual policy of Trump; "Professional liar" seems to be the most recurrent definition and so irrationality furious and the instability of character,  has emerged in every one of the 42 chapters. The dependence from Tweets and TV shows is correlated to the decision making of this presidency and most of all the selection of staff in the White House and in the departments and dismissal of people. The results are a big corporate tax cut that boosts the economy with debt at the expense of future generations, the protectionist politics that creating a more divisive society and much more disparities in the country, less freedom, but the book remains a day to day narrative of facts.

Il sentiero stretto... e oltre. Conversazione con Dino Pesole - Pier Carlo Padoan

Cronaca dal Ministero dell'Economia ai tempi di Pier Carlo Padoan e delle sue idee per il futuro. Argomentazioni molto articolate che sottolineano la difficoltà del Paese con il debito pubblico nemico numero uno per ritrovare la via della crescita, scorciatoie non sono ammesse. Il Jobs Act viene rivendicato come successo anche se accanto a Quota 100 e Reddito di Cittadinanza mostra molti limiti; indubbiamente la situazione italiana presenta molte stratificazioni e disfunzioni che nel tempo non vengono corrette anzi, si continua a produrre leggi e a creare burocrazia. La semplificazione, una riforma della scuola/lavoro e l'investimento in innovazione sono le priorità individuate da Padoan, il quale propone molto realisticamente una riduzione della diseguaglianza attraverso un'assegno per la disoccupazione europeo. Le istituzioni europee sono descritte come la soluzione possibile al declino italiano, certo con politiche congiunte sull'immigrazione, sull'Unione bancaria ed in generale per una politica fiscale unica. La conclusione è una doppia previsione del futuro dell'Italia, la prima visione è per il percorso di questo "Sentiero stretto" verso la crescita del 2% a livello sostenibile una volta rimessi a posto i conti con la crescita di posti di lavoro ed un aumento delle imprese di successo, la seconda previsione di un'inevitabile declino ed un eventuale uscita dall'Europa causa politiche nazionaliste e neoisolazioniste sempre più spinte.

Libro scientifico sulla genomica nutrizionale ed il moderno nutrizionismo, alimentazione, benessere ed un'indagine sulla piramide alimentare e sui corretti stili di vita. Le malattie moderne è riconosciuto derivino dalla sedentarietà e dalla scorretta alimentazione, obesità, diabete, malattie cardiache possono essere affrontate da una corretta conoscenza dei fabbisogni del nostro corpo e nell'assunzione di cibo e nella consumo di energia tramite attività fisica. Dolci, grassi e latticini danneggiano non poco il metabolismo umano che invece viene mantenuto con l'assunzione di acqua, verdura, frutta, legumi e cereali alla base della piramide alimentare. Le avventure dell'oceanografo Sandro Carniel ricercatore del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche. Spiegazione itinerante, si dispiega dapprima nelle Hawaii poi nel mare Adriatico. L'importanza delle connessioni acqua - cambiamento climatico - terra e vita ci conducono in un racconto semplice ma chiaro alla scoperta della biodiversità marina, le correnti, la scomparsa della barriera corallina ed alcuni cenni storiografici si sommano alla presenza umana è narrata come dirompente nella mutazione e riduzione degli habitat, ma anche nella ricerca scientifica e nel tentativo di mitigazione tramite l'istituzione di zone protette e in un accorato appello all'azione su scala mondiale. La narrazione della vita quotidiana del ricercatore aggiunge realtà alla divulgazione. Libretto preso a prestito dalla biblioteca di Auronzo.

Daniel Lacalle vigorous book subtitled "How to Escape From the $20 Trillion Monetary Expansion Unharmed" tries to explain the fallacies of the monetary policies summed to the imbalances and ineptitude in the macroeconomy action from Governments. Effectively the Dollar centric system is here to last, the export model without internal strong consumption tends to create a weakness; actually, inflation is tightly tied to low-interest rates and the perpetuating of QE bubble that determine large investment on short term assets ready to escape at the first-rate increase and thus creating an enormous crisis. The author's advice is to inject fresh resources into the real economy by cutting the taxes to the middle class and stabilize the interest rate at a more manageable high point instead of maintaining to zero very long creating money from nothing.

Stop Orders by Tony Loton is a fundamental book about the use of a tool named Stop Order in the technical analysis. Stop order to buy, to sell, trailing stops, position-sizing, market timing, short trades, long trades, ATR and so on. What is most important is finally the use of a strategy in scalping that gives some losses and many more gains, so the use of the stop orders in the eyes of Tony Loton aid to cut the whipsaw losses and help to run the profits. It's part of money management discourse and in a combination with pivot points also. The only one book that treating this specific argument.

La grande cecità - Amitav Ghosh

Il punto di vista indiano sul cambiamento climatico è indispensabile. L'Asia è il continente che assieme all'Africa soffre maggiormente di questo problema.

Scritto da un romanziere, questo testo affronta il perché nella narrativa odierna ci sia ancora reticenza nel dibattere su di un problema sociale, economico e soprattutto scientifico. Naturalmente lo fa con le percezioni della scrittura, storia e filosofia millenarie e di quel paese e dell'Occidente; dal 2015 ad oggi il movimento d'opinione al contrario dello scetticismo qui espresso vede una grossa presa di consapevolezza grazie ai "Fridays for future" impersonificati da Greta Thunberg anche se a livello politico nonostante le conclusioni di COP15 e dell'enciclica del Papa assistiamo ad un moltiplicarsi delle stratificazioni e dei problemi. La narrativa inizia a pubblicare libri e argomentazioni interessanti, nonostante ciò l'evidenza delle sempre più numerose catastrofi naturali sostiene la tesi dell'autore secondo cui assistiamo ad una cecità dalle conseguenze imprevedibili; l'appello che egli fa affinché le religioni di grossa tradizione sensibilizzino l'opinione pubblica pare si stia realizzando anche in base ai sondaggi che vedono negli USA un cambiamento negli ultimi anni verso una maggioranza silenziosa più incline ad accettare il Climate Change come un dato di fatto. Il grande problema rimane la carente divulgazione scientifica e la politica.

Book of 2008 past experiences and future prospects. Well documented, technical and complete book it recaps the history of Renminbi/Yuan and the transmission chain from early 1900 onward. A deep analysis of the ties between China, Hong Kong & Taiwan. The Communist Party closure of the nation and the inflation, the role of the Dollar. The exchange rate and its fluctuations and what now (2019) it means in the new commercial war as consequence, I think a logical conclusion of the imbalances between the 2 nations, obviously only a momentary lapse of time. The power of state-owned banks and more generally its enterprises compared to the incompleteness of market liberalizations following WTO access of China disrupted the panorama of global trade. The Greater-China currency or regional hegemony of Yuan suggested at the end of this book seems not really an option in the political contest nowadays, primarily because of the obscure situation of the free market in China.

Mal di scuola - Marco Imarisio

Saggio breve datato 2007 sulla crisi della scuola nel XXI secolo. Le storie raccontate dagli insegnanti anticipano la deriva che nel 2019 è visibile agli occhi di tutti, dove il ruolo autorevole della scuola non è più in sintonia con la società in cui ognuno si erige ad insegnante di se stesso. Situazioni, persone e luoghi difficili indagati ed esposti per quello che sono con le difficoltà d'inserimento delle persone nella vita attiva oramai pervasiva verso una generale descolarizzazione e analfabetismo di ritorno, con la tecnologia che incalza e sostituisce il sapere in una funzione sostitutiva del potere delle classi dominanti. La passione presente nelle narrazioni è un punto saldo della professione e pure del sistema di regole su cui vige la scuola perché a quanto pare insostituibile di ruolo. Lettura nobile.
